Doggie Donuts

Spoil your pup with a healthy homemade dog treat that’s fun and easy to make. This dog treat recipe is made in the shape of donuts and covered in carob icing so they look like real donuts. My pups loves them!

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup low fat milk
  • 1/2 cup natural smooth peanut butter
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

For the icing:

  • 1/4 cup carob powder
  • 1/4 cup boiled water

Instructions:

  • preheat oven to 375
  • line baking pan with parchment paper
  • beat the egg
  • mix in milk and peanut butter
  • beat until smooth
  • mix in the whole wheat flour and baking powder until you have a doughy consistency
  • knead dough on flat surface and add a little flour to keep from sticking
  • roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness
  • using a small round cookie cutter, cut dough into as many circles as you can
  • using a smaller cookie cutter, cut out smaller circles in the middle of each circle to create the donut
  • place the cut out donut on your baking pan
  • bake for 20 minutes, or until the donuts are dried and hard

To make the icing:

  • mix carob powder and boiling water in a small bowl
  • mix until you achieve a smooth paste
  • if icing seems too stiff, add in more water 1/2 teaspoon at a time

Once donuts have cooled, decorate by piping the carob icing on top. (To keep icing soft during decorating, keep icing bag or bottle in bowl of warm water in between decorating donuts)
