Featured Dog Friday

Dogs have long been known as “man’s best friend”; they are social animals who see their humans as their pack and become strongly attached to those humans. Dogs make great pets for families; they are loving, loyal, and great companions, who will not only help teach your children learn about responsibility, but also about unconditional love.

Not only do dogs give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally, and physically beneficial to their human companions. Caring for a dog can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment, as well as lessen feelings of loneliness.

Whether you want someone to cuddle up with while reading a good book, or running beside you as you train for a road race, there is a dog out there just waiting to fill that roll.

Meet Roxy, a 6-year-old Shepherd Rottweiler mix. Roxy was originally adopted from Bobbi and the Strays in New York as a young pup, and was returned in September of 2020 when her dad passed away and her mom was unable to care for her any longer. Poor Roxy has been waiting far too long for someone special to come and take her home, but not one person has shown any interest and it’s time we changed that!

It is beyond heartbreaking to watch this stunning girl wait day after day for a family, especially when we can’t help her understand why she is waiting for so long. Take a look at this face and tell us how you could pass her by? The hearts of our companion animals, like our own are fragile, so we must be gentle with them. You can never be too nice or too generous with your love. As it is often said, you can’t change a dog’s past but you can rewrite their future.

Roxy is a staff and volunteer favorite, gets lots of love and care, but just doesn’t grab an adopter’s attention. She is the complete package for an amazing family dog! All this sweet girl wants is a loving home and family where she can relax, and enjoy all that life has to offer. No one is truly sure why this stunning girl goes unnoticed; we are dumbfounded. She is incredibly friendly, sweet, full of energy and fun. She loves to run and play fetch. We have been told by Bobbi and the Strays volunteers that she’s such a good girl they don’t understand why she’s still waiting – and neither do we!

Large dogs like Roxy can get a bad rep sometimes, but the truth is that many large breeds make excellent family dogs and Roxy is no exception, she LOVES kids! She really enjoys meeting new people and gets so excited especially when she sees children. It’s as if the sadness in her eyes disappears and she lights up with happiness. She is a very smart girl who loves showing off her knowledge of commands, enjoys long walks, playing in the yard with her ball, toys, and loves to just hang out by your side. Roxy would be best suited in home with a fenced in yard and needs to be your one and only pet.

Roxy’s only issue is she can be a bit reactive to other dogs, but it is manageable. She has never shown any aggression other than hard barking and pulling when out on walks, but she is easily redirected. We know that needing to be the only pet makes it much more difficult to find a home, but we also have faith that there is a home out there that is just perfect for her and we won’t stop until we find it.

We have discussed the issue of needing to be the only dog time and time again, yet we still feel this topic is worth repeating. When it comes to the dogs who need to be only pets we need to think outside the box. There are some families out there that only want one pet at home or perhaps you or someone you know just bought a house for the first time and haven’t gotten a dog yet.

Choosing the perfect dog for your family isn’t always an easy choice, and in a perfect world, any dog you choose would mesh perfectly with your lifestyle. But whether you’re looking for a dog that can keep up with a busy house or want a couch potato/love bug to read your paper with in the mornings, Roxy is your girl!

She has been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and microchipped. She is devoted, playful, and affectionate, what more could you ask for? Roxy will give you a lifetime of unconditional love if you just give her the chance. We know there is someone out there with a big heart and a soft bed; all this beautiful girl needs to be happy is some love, and she will return that unconditionally.

We know in our hearts that there is a home out there that is just perfect for her. Won’t someone please give her a chance? There must be a family out there who is the perfect match for this adorable girl who is just looking for love; she is truly special and so deserving of a home.
