Featured Dog Friday

The unconditional love a dog brings to your life is priceless; hearing pawsteps coming to the door when you arrive home after a long work day, or having a running partner to keep you motivated are just fractions of the goodness that dogs provide.

When you choose to add a furry member to your family, you should (in theory) choose to be a responsible owner as well. Unfortunately, not all dog owners act responsibly, many have even abandoned their dogs when they “become inconvenient”.

While many shelter and rescue dogs do find happiness, some are repeatedly overlooked because they have traits that seem to make them less adoptable, and sometimes, for no apparent reason, the nicest dog is stuck waiting for far too long.

Take a look at this stunning beauty, Rosebud! Another heartbreaking story of a beautiful soul waiting far too long for her chance to be loved forever. This adorable girl was originally adopted by her family as a puppy and at age five found herself surrendered to Remember Me Rescue NY.

Rosebud’s world as a puppy was very small; she spent her puppyhood growing up locked up in a bedroom and was not at all socialized with other people or animals. She was never given the chance to learn and acclimate to new people, places and pets in an effort to help her know how to behave in new and unfamiliar situations – things became too scary for her.

Rosebud is a very sweet dog, but she can be nervous. She requires slow introductions to people and she warms up fairly quickly. She is highly food motivated, and has zero guarding issues. She just needs to meet people a few times and that’s it. And if you meet her in person you will quickly fall in love; she really is a sweet dog.

Socializing a dog is crucial to them growing up to be a happy, well-adjusted pet. Puppy socialization should generally take place in the first 16 weeks of a dog’s life. This is the window of time in puppy’s lives that determines who they will become as adult dogs. Their temperament, character and behavior habits are developed during this socialization period – and will last their entire lifetime. This is what affects how your dog will relate to his family, strangers, other animals and even the environment in which he/she lives.

Not exposing your dog to a variety of other pets increases the chance that your pup will grow up to not appreciate other animals’ company. Introducing your dog to other pets helps teach them valuable communication skills so they have good manners by the time they’re an adult.

Your dog also needs to be introduced to a wide variety of people including those who may be wearing hats, have beards, wheelchairs or walkers. Believe it or not, these things can seem scary to an animal without proper socialization.

During early puppyhood, dogs are open to new experiences and most puppies will grow up to be comfortable in a wide variety of situations. However, if those puppies don’t get that early socialization, or are predisposed to anxiety due to genetics or other factors, they will sadly grow up with poor social skills.

For these reasons, Rosebud needs to be the one and only pet in a home with no young children. Because of the way a dog’s brain develops, dog socializing can become more difficult as a dog gets older, but not all hope is lost. It can be done, and as the saying goes, “slow and steady wins the race.”

Beautiful Rosebud has been waiting a long time unnecessarily in a boarding facility. Because she needs to be the only pet, there was no open foster home available to accommodate her. So we are here today hoping and praying someone out there reading this article can open their heart and home to her. The rescue is in search of a special someone who can immediately foster, or adopt of course, so this precious girl can get out of boarding and learn what it’s really like to live in a home as part of a family.

Rosebud knows some basic commands and has wonderful leash manners. Training comes with ease since she is so food motivated.

Rosebud will need a special someone in her life who is patient and understanding; a savvy, experienced dog family who will give her the time she needs to get over her fears, and adjust to home life. A quiet home with not a lot of people traffic going in and out. Although Rosebud can be a little shy at first, once she warms up to you she will never leave your side! A fenced in yard would be nice for her, but the rescue has decided that if an individual is dog experienced enough it is not a requirement.

Rosebud deserves a forever home with a family who will love, and cherish her. There must be someone out there who is the perfect match for this beautiful girl, could that someone be you?

Take a good look at this gorgeous girl and tell us, how you could look at her face and not want to bring her home! Won’t you please consider stepping up to at least foster this stunning beauty? And if you are not in the position to foster or adopt at this time, at the very least, we ask that you help us get Rosebud noticed so she does not wait in boarding any longer.

Every night when her kennel door closes Rosebud dreams of a loving home and family to call her own. Don’t hesitate to go and meet her, we guarantee you will fall in love!
