Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe

While the market is flooded with treats for dogs not all of them are good for your dog. Use caution when purchasing treats, always read the ingredients, and make sure there are no recalls. A good way to avoid these issues is to make your own treats.

Fresh doggie treats, fresh ingredients. I have found that this recipe freezes well and can be defrosted quickly in the fridge. So when you have the time double or triple up the recipe. I have used gallon size freezer bags so I can store more treats for future use. You can also store some in airtight containers in the fridge which make them last 3-5 days because they tend to get moist.

If your dog is on a grain free diet you can use coconut flour instead of the whole wheat. I make it both ways because some of the dogs need grain free. They love them both ways!

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients listed below together. Kneed the dough, roll it out on a lightly floured surface and use whatever cookie cutter shapes you choose.

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Bake for 25-30 min depending on the size and thickness of your cookies. Oven times may vary. Allow to cool well before packing and storing them.
