Shelter Spotlight: Still Longs For A Home

I would like to introduce you all to Lexi Mama. She was our very first Featured Dog Friday here at Paws Give Me Purpose, and was part of my article about the “Forgotten Ones”, yet somehow she is still waiting, she is still forgotten. How is this even possible??

Every dog deserves to be loved, it’s so difficult to understand why no one has stepped up for Lexi Mama. Why she gets consistently passed over. I will continue to share Lexi Mama with you until that special someone/family sees that she is what has been missing from their lives and takes her home.

Lexi Mama has been in a shelter kennel WAY too long! This is her 3rd Winter at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Her life has improved since arriving at the shelter as here she is taken care of and has friends who walk her–but now she needs a home. Lexi Mama has reached her second anniversary at the shelter, and it is past time for her to be in a forever home.

Lexi Mama is a beautiful, tan and white, 5-year-old pup. She is dog selective and would require a meet and greet, and she is not a fan of cats. She has quite a long history with the shelter, obviously meaning it’s not a good one. Lexi Mama first came to the shelter in 2014 as a stray. She was reclaimed by her owner, only to reappear at the shelter in 2015. This time, her owner did not come back for her.

As much as Lexi Mama, is loved, the shelter staff was not happy to see her again! Lexi Mama is playful with toys, and displays no issues with people near her food. She can be wary of new people, but quickly warms up and becomes quite loving.

Lexi Mama used to live with a male dog, but she is slightly nervous of meeting new dogs. She may prefer to be a solo dog, or perhaps there is a low key dog out there that wants to be her sibling! This poor girl has been dealt a terrible hand in life, and I hope and pray things begin to look up for her.

Maybe everyone thinks “someone else will take her?” Maybe because she’s not on death row? Maybe people believe she’s “safe ” with the luxury of time. Sadly, this isn’t true, we never know when one’s time is up, so don’t wait!

Paws Give Me Purpose went to visit the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter a couple days ago, and I had a chance to meet Lexi Mama in person. She is a girl too full of life to be cooped up in cage! Take her home and you’ll have your own beautiful ball of sunshine to brighten each day!

Here’s where we come in. Lexi Mama NEEDS OUR HELP! Let’s get her name and face out there into the dog loving community. Please share this post, like and share her Facebook page, and pictures. Help me spread the word so her forever family notices her! Tell everyone you know to like and share it too! Help me help Lexi Mama find her family!

  1. I would love to have this beautiful girl. But I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada. Would you be willing to send her here? She will be loved and cared for.

    1. You would need to contact the shelter directly to find out. I know sometimes transport is available but it depends on the dog and the situation. Please contact the shelter with any question you have, the contact information is listed at the bottom of the post.

Love to hear from you!
