GORGEOUS GIRL COMING OUT OF HER SHELL – River needs a chance in a loving home with a loving family. <3 A volunteer writes: Before I met River, I was told that she was very timid and even a bit scared. This is always a thing good to know before to interact with a dog or a cat. River came to her door as I called her and got leashed without effort. She ignored the barking of her kennel-mates as we exited her room and aimed for the street. River pulls a little on the leash and does her business right way. Her tail is not shy and wags more and more as our encounter continues. It is really in the yard, leash free that River comes out of her shell and flashes a beautiful smile and laughing eyes. I call her a “bench girl” as it seems to be her favorite place to be, by my side or behind me, licking my neck. While she showed discomfort in playgroups with her peers, River seemed to enjoy a timid male eying her and bowing to her in an adjacent pen. She can sit on command and comes when I call her. River is a gorgeous dog, long legged, trim, well groomed and elegantly dressed in her cream and mocca coat. Although she has shown wariness and unease with the ups and downs that recently marked her life, River is capable to bond and enjoy the presence of humans and dogs who are or easy going and friendly or understanding of her predicament. I know there is hope for River. It is just a matter of believing in her and giving her a chance. River is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center.
SANDY is a sweet girl and, most likely, a little confused as to what happened to her. After four years, she was surrendered by the family she lived with since puppyhood. During intake she was friendly, just a little shy. In her home she lived in harmony with a ten year old child she was social and affectionate with. She also lived with a cat and they even SHARED ONE BOWL! When another dog of the same size came to visit she played very nicely. She can be fearful and a bit wary around children she’s not familiar with, since there was a kid in her neighborhood, that thought it was funny to throw rocks at her regulary. Unfortunately, it seems her owner never did enough to protect her. Sandy also needs some better care for her skin, since she has dermatitis. Please share Sandy for a new home that is more understanding, supportive and protective of her than her old home was.
“HIS FAVORITE TREAT IS CHICKEN WINGS,” ZEUS’S OWNER TOLD THE INTAKE STAFF AT THE BROOKLYN SHELTER BEFORE THEY SIGNED HIM OVER TO COMPLETE STRANGERS AND WALKED OUT OF HIS LIFE FOREVER. Now Zeusy sits and waits on death row, another overlooked (but awesome) brindle boy, hoping this isn’t the end of the road for him. It doesn’t have to be. Especially if we share him consistently for that second chance he’s longing for. A volunteer writes: Zeus is one of those dogs that is just excited and happy about everything. With a few wags of his tail, he can help you learn to appreciate that life is good! In a way that only a master at making lemonade out of lemons could, he even rolled over for belly rubs during his initial medical exam! He has previously lived with an 8 month old baby and a Pomeranian, and we’re told he was relaxed, playful and tolerant with both. He’s SUPER friendly and loves meeting people; whenever I have him in the yard he does his best to get the attention of anyone passing by in hopes of making a new friend! He pulls on leash and jumps up to solicit affection, but I wouldn’t at all call him unruly, just energetic. He seems housebroken, knows some commands, and is reported to be well-behaved in the home. He is fun, adorable, affectionate and his company is definitely something to be excited about…he would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
Gorgeous, playful, he loved his family, meeting new people, running in the park, long walks in the neighborhood and even BATHS! Stellar AVERAGE rated, and a 5-STAR PUP! No one can resist Logan. He’s so sweet, wiggly, playful and loving. He adored the 4 year old child he lived with, and was an attention hog – wanting to get pets and hugs and kisses. He never guarded his things, always willing to share. He was also a very good boy when he had to stay home alone. His favorite food was Purina and his favorite toy was a ball. But his “aww” moment was when we heard he loved to sleep in bed with his owner. This is a wonderful proven family pet who was given up because of NO TIME. We can’t believe anyone would NOT have time for a dog so amazing, but now he is facing his death if no one will step up to foster or adopt him. He may need a bit of TLC for some patchy fur, but this breed is known for that. A good shampoo (like Duoxo) and a good grain free food (or a hydrolyzed food like the one by Royal Canin) can change all of that around. We know, we have dogs with skin issues here at MLD. So don’t wait another minute, step up now for this incredible boy and you can wake up every day to that megawatt, non stop smile and wagging tail. We adore Logan, so will you.
