Welcome to Adoption Central! Each week Paws Give me Purpose will feature a different rescue/shelter dog that is in search of their forever family.
It’s true, I am the author, but I have to say It’s so sad seeing all these dog posts isn’t it? Well here’s another one for you, meet Pia.
Pia is 3 years old and lives in the VERY crowded Hempstead Animal Shelter. She came in to the shelter as a stray, but must have had a home at some point in her life because she knows many commands.
When I said VERY crowded shelter I wasn’t kidding. The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is at maximum capacity! There are over 150 dogs and at least as many cats desperately in need of homes. Every kennel, crate and office is full. There are dogs in the garage and cats in the behavior trailer. If you or someone you know can adopt or even just temporarily foster, it will make a huge difference–please consider!
Pia is very loving with the people she knows but fearful of strangers. She needs a patient family that will give her the time she needs to get over her fear. Once she warms up to you she will never leave your side! Pia needs to be in an all adult home or in a home with older teens.
This is Pia’s time to shine, please help her by sharing everywhere! Go down to the shelter and meet this beautiful girl today, I guarantee you you’ll fall in love!
Help me get Pia noticed! Head over to her Facebook page, like it, share like crazy all over the place! Let’s get this girl out of the shelter and into a loving forever home where she can really begin to live the life she deserves!

Since November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month I wanted to share this beautiful senior girl who is in search of her furever home! Say hello to Missy.
Missy is a 7-8 years young pocket Pitbull. Missy loves big people and small, she also loves other dogs too! Missy has been at the shelter for a year now and I have no idea why, to me this is heartbreaking. There’s no reason for her to sit in a shelter kennel when she should be out living life to the fullest, especially since she is so friendly.
When Missy gets really excited she lifts her lip, it’s the cutest thing. She is great on the leash, and is just a little ball of fun. She loves to play but also knows when to relax. Head down to the shelter and I guarantee you’ll fall in love.
You may be reluctant to adopt a senior dog because you fear that the time with your new best friend will be short, but know that the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every day more special; seniors have tons of love to give!
Please help me help Missy get out of the shelter and into a home where she can be loved and cherished like she should. Head over to her Facebook page, like, share, help me network this beautiful senior girl! Let’s honor Adopt a Senior Pet Month by getting Missy adopted!!

I recently introduce you all to a very handsome boy named Cola. Sadly, he just marked his 2 year anniversary at the Yonkers Shelter. It’s really too long for such a handsome fellow to be without his own family. Cola was born to be someone’s true-blue best friend, could it be you??
Here’s what makes this boy SO special:
Cola is a 3-year-old 65 lb goofball and has the most heart-melting gaze. He’s one gorgeous brindle boy who wants to be the apple of your eye, so for now only pet is recommended.
He did seem ok around other dogs at first, but life in the shelter has changed him, so he may possibly be dog selective. A meet and greet is recommended to assess this situation. He is not fond of cats, and a home with children over 10 would be best.
He is a low-maintenance kind of guy that just wants to be loved and treated kindly. He’s a sweet, cuddly couch companion very affectionate and people loving!
Cola also has an adventurous side, he would love to be your adventure partner, but he’s also happy to chill at home and be your tv watching partner too.
Cola is just extremely sweet dog, and a great companion. He cannot wait to meet his forever family and start showing his love and affection for them! His ideal home would let him join in on any family adventures. He loves outside time so a fenced in yard is a must, he loves tennis balls, and outdoor play so he would be thrilled to join a family that appreciated that too. Mostly, Cola just wants a home that will love him forever!
For more information on Cola you can visit his petfinder page:
Growing up behind bars is not where he should be! Please help me help Cola find his forever family so he can live the life he truly deserves! Cola is very easy to fall in love with, head to the shelter for a visit, when you meet him, you will see why he would make a wonderful best-friend!
If you or anyone you know is interested in his handsome boy please use any of the above links or contact information below to inquire about him.

Once again, I come to all of you for help. I will continue to share the stories of forgotten dogs who have spent WAY too much time in shelter kennels. Not too long ago, I shared the stories of the longest “jailed” forgotten dogs, Tila is one of them. In case you missed it, you can read that post here:
I have shared Tilas story MANY times now, yet she still sits behind bars longing for a forever home. I will not stop sharing these stories until every single one of these beautiful souls is granted a home where they can really start to live the life they deserve!
Tila is a gorgeous girl! She was found as a stray in March of 2016 by the police in the early morning hours. She was found wearing a collar without tags and no owner has stepped forward to claim her.
Tila is a volunteer favorite who is guaranteed to steal your heart. ❤️ A savvy, experienced owner is just what Tila needs, and I know that there is someone out there reading this who is feeling like this girl will complete their life! If you feel that something is missing, take that step and become Tila’s forever family! All she asks for is love and she will return that love a million times more.
Tila watches all of her friends go to loving forever homes, when will it be her turn? She has been at the shelter since last March, and it’s sadly been over a year now. If you are interested in adopting or fostering this beautiful soul go and meet her and get ready to fall in love!
Tila is 5-6 years old and such a good dog! It is recommended that she go to a home with older kids, no youngsters. She walks nicely on a leash and has a calm quiet personality. She loves people and playing with her toys. As of now, Tila needs to be the queen of her castle with no other dogs.
It is much more difficult to find a home when you need to be an only dog, but I know there are homes out there that fit that criteria. This beautiful girl deserves a chance at a real life, a shelter kennel is not where she should be spending her days.
If you want more information, or have any questions contact information is listed below.
Give Tila a chance and take her home you won’t be disappointed! Head over to her Facebook page, like, share. PLEASE help me network her and share her story with everyone you know in hopes that her forever family sees it and goes to get her. Help me make Tila’s dream come true! Together we can find Tila her forever family!

I first introduced you all to this beautiful girl back in August, yet she is still waiting for that special someone/family to come take her home. Jessica is 4 1/2 years old, stunning, obedient, athletic and agile. Jessica has been waiting almost her entire life for her forever family to find her after she was pulled from the ACC euth list in July of 2013; Jessica was just a puppy at the time.
Jessica is currently boarding in Orange County, NY and is desperately seeking a loving home. This pup is the most affectionate, loyal dog, who will make the most wonderful companion for someone. Jessica needs that special someone who will understand and respect that she needs to be their only pet. She is beyond sweet and adoring of her people, and is in no way hyper. Jessica loves to play fetch and would make a great running buddy!
Jessica is great with kids, but she would do better living with older kids (preferably teens at the youngest). Younger guests are fine, but she needs a family who can devote time and energy to her; Jessica needs a calm and stable environment. Jessica is a very well-behaved girl and knows tons of commands. When I heard about Jessica’s story, I just couldn’t wrap my head around why Jessica has not been scooped up yet. I believe there is a home out there that fits the criteria she needs.
Could you be that person…That family? Jessica is waiting for you!
If you have questions or would like more detailed information on Jessica, please visit her Facebook page:
I ask that you please all help me to network and share Jessica. Your share could be the one that lands her the forever home that she so deserves!

I first introduced you all to this beautiful girl, Clover. The original post can be found here:
I have shared and updated her story MANY times, yet she is still in the shelter! How is this possible????
Please take a moment to watch Clover’s slideshow; I cannot stress enough how important it is that we continue to share her story so that everyone keeps her in mind and doesn’t forget that she has been waiting in the shelter for two and one half years.
Clover came to the Yonkers Animal Shelter as a throw away Mom in February of 2015. She soon became a volunteer favorite and has over the years has learned many commands and tricks.
Clover is exceptionally smart and has an amazing temperament for a dog who has spent such a long time in a shelter kennel.
Clover does have an indoor/outdoor kennel, but it’s not like being free. There is no sensory stimulation or human interaction unless visitors, staff or volunteers come by. These interactions alone are not comparable to being in a home where Clover belongs.
Clover is very appropriate around other dogs now, however, it seems that there aren’t many she would like to live with. It is recommended that possibly a calm male might work if the person has the time and patience to introduce and integrate very slowly. A family all her own would be perfect.
Clover is not yet four years old, and has spent most of her life in the shelter😪😪😪 PLEASE help me help Clover find her forever home! Stop by the shelter and say hello, I guarantee you’ll fall in love!
Most of all SHARE THIS POST! Together we can help Clover get out of the shelter and into a home where she can really start to live the life she deserves!
Yet another beautiful soul wasting her days away in a shelter kennel. That is not how she should be spending her days! Help me get her out of the shelter and into a loving home where she belongs.
Here is what Clovers advocates have to say about her:
“It is so hard to watch a special dog like Clover sit in a kennel, day after day, year after Year waiting and waiting to be noticed. It breaks our hearts 💔

This handsome, 3-year-old hunk is Jay Z. This boy has been waiting for his forever home since March of 2016, sitting in a shelter cage just waiting for his family to find him!
Jay Z spends his days in a shelter kennel. 18 months behind bars for 23.5 hours a day, just like jail, but he’s done nothing wrong to deserve it. This boy would truly make a very loving addition to a family’s life, just give him the chance!

Today I would like to introduce you to this beautiful girl, Peaches. Peaches was found as a stray roaming the streets of Yonkers, NY. Her story is painful to share, but is one that needs to be told. I will continue to share it with you until that special someone sees that Peaches is what has been missing from their lives and takes her home.
When I spoke to Peaches’ advocate she told me that when she first laid eyes on her, March 29, 2014, she immediately reminded her of a painting; expressive face with huge eyes, peering out of the back corner of her kennel soulful and loving.
Peaches has been homeless ever since that day, over 3 years ago. This beautiful girl is about 5-6 years old and professionally trained. She loves all humans and can live with furry siblings–meet and greet required.
Every dog deserves to be loved, it’s so difficult to understand why no one has stepped up for Peaches. Why she gets consistently passed over, I simply can’t understand.
Peaches’ advocate has been fighting for, sharing, and loving Peaches for these past 3 1/2 years! She told me that for some reason Peaches just doesn’t get any inquires or feedback. She can’t get people to LIKE her page, SHARE Peaches’ story, or find her a HOME. She believes in Peaches and will NEVER give up but she can’t do it alone.
So here I am dear family, friends, readers, and followers, asking you to help me help get Peaches noticed! Her advocate is not alone, we are here and we can surely help and make a difference in Peaches’ life.
After Peaches’ first months at the shelter, it became obvious to her advocate that she could not survive there – she was stressed and totally broken. She pulled her and placed her into a boarding/training program, but they gave up on her almost immediately. She was in and out of boarding kennels for 2+ years while she waited for an adoptive family that never came. She told me that she saw something in Peaches, a light in her eyes that grabbed at her that told her she deserved every chance she could get to shine!
Finally last October, Peaches joined ChaseK9 Services to help facilitate her adoption process, by teaching her how to be the perfect well-mannered companion for her special furever home. From living on the streets, to being thrown into a shelter, she was finally given a chance to survive.
Peaches has blossomed incredibly and has exceeded all expectations. Currently Peaches lives in boarding at her trainer’s. While her trainer loves her, this is not a real home….. It hurts our hearts to consider what Peaches must think, after being homeless for so long. She’s a good girl who deserves to spend her life with a family of her own.
Peaches is smart, attentive and a ton of fun. A perfect dog for agility work, a jogging companion, a swimming teammate, some couch cuddles, and outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, camping, some sandy beach walks along the shore, bike trails or a best friend that will keep a smile on your face!
Why is she still waiting? Maybe everyone thinks “someone else will take her?” Maybe because she’s not on death row? Maybe people believe she’s “safe ” with the luxury of time. Sadly, this isn’t true, we never know when one’s time is up.
Peaches’ advocate says that she has watched too many dogs leave this earth never knowing what it’s like to belong to someone and she refuses to allow that to be her fate. She is a girl too full of life to be cooped up in cage. Take Peaches home and you’ll have your own beautiful ball of sunshine to brighten each day!
Here’s where we come in. She NEEDS OUR HELP getting Peaches’ name and face out there into the dog loving community. Please share this post, her Facebook page, and like her pictures. Help me spread the word so her forever family notices her!
Peaches’ advocate says she will never give up or turn her back on her, and neither will I. Until last night I didn’t even know about Peaches myself, but now that I do, Peaches needs all of you to help me, help her!
She needs to go home, let’s get her there! Peaches is lucky to have all of you in her corner and together we can do this!
Currently Peaches is located in Rhode Island. For more info please contact:

I would like to introduce you all to Lexi Mama. I recently published an article entitled “Shelter Spotlight: The Forgotten Ones”, she is featured in that post linked below.
She has been in a shelter kennel WAY too long. This is her 3rd Autumn at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Her life has improved since arriving at the shelter as here she is taken care of and has friends who walk her–but now she needs a home. Lexi Mama has almost reached her second anniversary at the shelter, and it is past time for her to be in a forever home.
Lexi Mama is a beautiful, tan and white, 4-5 year old pup. She is dog selective and would require a meet and greet, and she is not a fan of cats. She has quite a long history with the shelter, obviously meaning it’s not a good one. Lexi Mama first came to the shelter in 2014 as a stray. She was reclaimed by her owner, only to reappear at the shelter in 2015. This time, her owner did not come back for her.
As much as Lexi Mama, is loved, the shelter staff was not happy to see her again! Lexi Mama is playful with toys, and displays no issues with people near her food. She can be wary of new people, but quickly warms up and becomes quite loving.
Lexi Mama used to live with a male dog, but she is slightly nervous of meeting new dogs. She may prefer to be a solo dog, or perhaps there is a low-key dog out there that wants to be her sibling! This poor girl has been dealt a terrible hand in life, and I hope and pray things begin to look up for her.
Please help me share and network this beauty! Like and share her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/adoptLexiMama/ tell everyone you know to like and share it too!
Help me help Lexi Mama find her forever family! If you or someone you know is interested please use the contact information below or reach out on her Facebook page and send a message.
