Anti-Inflammatory Stew

All of the ingredients in this recipe are naturally alkaline and anti-inflammatory. The rose-hips/cranberries/apples provide Vitamin C, while the antioxidant properties of the nettles have been observed to help minimize inflammation.

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 cups chopped carrots
  • 2 medium zucchini, sliced
  • 2 sweet potatoes, sliced
  • 2 cups of spinach or kale
  • 1 1/2 cups of pearl barley or quinoa
  • 1/2 cup lentils
  • 1/2 cup of fresh parsley
  • 1 cup of fresh/dried nettles
  • 1/2 cup dried rose-hips, apples or cranberries

Instructions:

  • place carrots in a large pot with water and bring to a boil
  • add the barley or quinoa and simmer (add more water as needed but it should be quite thick when done)
  • next add sweet potatoes, squash or zucchini
  • let simmer for 5 minutes then add the rest of your ingredients
  • turn off burner and cover the pot to allow the rest of the ingredients to steam

Allow stew to cool on the stove, then store in airtight containers in your fridge or freezer.

You can serve this stew to your pups as is or use as a topper during meal time. Remember to ALWAYS consult your own Veterinarian before adding something new to your pups diet.
