Welcome Valentina

Paws Give Me Purpose welcomes our newest Sanctuary resident, Valentina!

Found abandoned on the streets in horrible condition and taken to the shelter. This beautiful senior soul was filthy, covered in feces with matted fur. She has a large mass, and is also completely blind in one eye with limited vision in the other. Aside from the host of other senior medical issues, she suffers from severe dental disease.

The stench from her body was unreal when our volunteer picked her from the shelter. It looks to us like this girl has lived in a cage of her own urine, feces and was used for breeding.

The most heartbreaking part to us is that this sweet girl has absolutely suffered for a very long time – and it’s time we changed that!

Our mailbox and voicemail are full, the requests for Sanctuary are non-stop. It is heartbreaking work and we work 24/7 to make sure these deserving souls receive the second chance they deserve for no matter how long they are with us.

We cannot continue to do so without YOUR help. We are truly just scraping by and honestly are not sure how much longer we can do this.

Without YOU we can no longer help dogs like Valentina who suffer at the hands of careless, heartless people who treat them like objects that can be simply discarded when they are done with them – so please give.

Remembering Beau

Sometimes, Paws Give Me Purpose is that special place where dogs come to cross that bridge with dignity and love…

Although we knew his time with us would be very short, Beau’s life was very important to us. Our promise was to provide him with a safe and loving environment for the rest of his life and we kept that promise.

Beau passed on his own terms peacefully in his sleep – and our hearts are broken once again.

This sweet senior had a lot going on medically, but he did not let it stop him from enjoying life. We loved, cherished and provided him with the very best supportive care and he rallied enjoying quality time with humans and dogs alike.

Beau was a social butterfly of sorts and enjoyed snuggling up with his doggie friends, sharing snacks, sitting in human laps and the occasional climbing all over our volunteers. He was so truly sweet – no words can really describe just how much.

We did everything we possibly could to help him and really thought he would have had more time with us, but his little body could not keep up with his will to live. It is extremely difficult when we only have a short time with a Sanctuary resident, this type of loss hurts us so deeply.

Thank you to the Jersey Shore Animal Center for entrusting us with Beau’s care. Thank you for bringing him into our lives and for giving us the pleasure of loving him with our whole hearts!

You will forever live on in our hearts Beau – you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known and love you!

Thank you to each and every one of you for kindness, prayers and donations toward Beau’s supportive care. We truly could not do any of this without you.

Remembering Peanut

As much as we hate sharing heartbreaking news, our very own Mr. Peanut has gained his angel wings. He left this earth on his own terms, peacefully, in his sleep, knowing kindness, compassion, love and dignity.

Peanut’s passing was not unexpected, but the timing was random – it must have just been time. He stole the hearts of many the moment he entered our Sanctuary doors with his vibrant personality and zest for life. Sadly his body was tired and could no longer keep up with his will to live.

We are completely shattered, and know you all share this devastating loss with us.

Peanut arrived at our Sanctuary back in July of 2023 from a shelter in South Carolina. His story is sadly all too familiar, but nonetheless heartbreaking. A blind and deaf senior Chihuahua with a laundry list of medical issues, including being heartworm positive, found wandering the streets only to end up sitting alone and forgotten behind shelter walls wondering why his family never came looking for him. His life was in jeopardy and we simply could not say no to the urgent plea – his life mattered!

When Peanut first arrived, he was a bit fearful of handling, but who could blame him? His trust had already been broken and because he was abandoned, he simply was not open to being loved right away. He pretty much kept to himself only allowing other dogs to love him; but eventually, Sanctuary mom won him over and she was his go to person.

Peanut enjoyed the finer things in life like home cooked meals and warm bubble baths. He most especially enjoyed fresh warm bedding from the dryer. Being both blind and deaf, his sense of smell was truly amazing; he knew when the fresh beds and blankets were in the room and he could hardly wait to climb right into one to snuggle up for a good sleep. He also knew just when the meals were being served and waited eagerly for his breakfast/dinners; nose in the air sniffing the aromas, he savored every bite.

He was part of an exclusive group here at the Sanctuary – blind and some blind and deaf dogs who enjoyed spending time together. They had their own little clique so to speak and only welcomed others with the same disabilities to join them. It was a dynamic like no other, something to marvel about. They could literally sense if another dog was like them or not. Didn’t matter the size or breed, just had to have the same disability – their hearts led the way.

And although Peanut enjoyed time with his group of friends, his favorite time of the day was sitting right in Sanctuary moms lap – just enjoying some cuddles and feeling her touch.

Peanut was one of the sweetest, most gentle souls we have ever encountered and we will never be able to understand why anyone could have ever tossed him away. He made us smile, made us laugh and made us cry. Although it was not nearly long enough, we are forever grateful for the time that we had with him. Peanut’s presence was a gift; he will forever be a part of our hearts.

You will always live on in our hearts Peanut – you were taken too soon. We were blessed to have known and been able to love you. We know that many of you understand and share these same sentiments of those that you have loved and lost as well.

We would like to acknowledge Peanut’s generous sponsor, Jeff, for assisting us with his care and for helping give us the ability to provide Peanut with everything he needed and more. On behalf of little Peanut, we thank you from the bottom of his heart and ours. It is supporters like yourself that are the driving force behind what we do.

Thank you to all of our followers and supporters for being a part of Peanuts journey, for caring and for being a support to us during this difficult time.
