In Memory Of Mica

As much as we hate sharing heartbreaking news, we wanted to inform all of you with the deepest sadness that Mica has passed away. He left this earth peacefully on his own terms, knowing kindness, compassion, love and dignity.

This past Wednesday, Mica woke up, had breakfast, had his favorite snack (honey goat cheese), got in bed for his morning nap, and left us. This was not something that was unexpected, but the timing was random – it must have just been his time.

We are completely shattered and know you all share this loss with us and his beloved sister Pebbles.

Mica and Pebbles, bonded siblings, arrived at our Sanctuary back in February from the New York City shelter. They were our Valentine’s Day rescue – two precious senior hearts to hug. The shelter was very specific about not wanting to separate this bonded pair and we committed to keeping them together.

The day they arrived we were speechless; Mica’s condition was extremely grave. Even our Veterinary team did not feel there was much hope for him – and that his time with us would be very short. Supportive care was immediately started and Pebbles never left his side.

Miracles happen every day here at Paws Give Me Purpose, and Mica really needed one; and he got it. He made an amazing recovery bouncing back, and began enjoying life.

His will to live was amazing and he really seemed to enjoy everything we offered him and never declined an opportunity to have some fun most especially with his sister Pebbles by his side.

He was a very easy going boy who truly loved with all his heart, and was always watching out for his sister. Mica even made a close doggie friend, Freddie who he enjoyed spending time with as well.

We observe a lot of interesting dynamics between dogs here at our Sanctuary and oftentimes there are moments with clear messages. It’s almost as if Mica only bounced back because he needed to be sure Pebbles was in good hands. His purpose was to make sure his little sister was loved, taken care of, and once she made friends and flourished here in Sanctuary, he felt safe enough to let go – and he did that with grace and dignity.

Our promise to Mica and all the precious souls that walk through our doors is to give them their best lives daily, with unconditional love for however long they are here with us. Now Mica has also left behind his beloved sister Pebbles and best friend Freddie, who are grieving his loss each in their own way. Our promise to Mica now is to help them through this difficult time and in his memory continue to give them their best lives daily for the rest of their lives.

You will always live on in our hearts Mica; you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known and been able to love you with our whole hearts!

We would like to acknowledge Mica’s generous sponsor for assisting us with his care and helping give us the ability to provide him with everything he needed and then some. On behalf of Mica we thank you from the bottom of his little heart and ours. It is supporters like yourselves that are the driving force behind what we do.

To all of our followers and supporters, thank you for caring and for being a support to us during this difficult time.

Smiles Are Contagious

Little Chip is popping in to say hello on this terrific Tuesday.

You have to admit that no matter what day of the week it is, your spirits are lifted when you see an animal showing off its tongue – their tongue is doing the smiling and smiles are contagious.

Smiling is known to give off a positive vibe which tends to be contagious and can spread a mood making people feel a little bit lighter. What is so magical about a smile is the ripple effect it causes, and Chip is hoping he made you all smile so others will see and they will smile too.

Smiles are contagious – be a carrier.

Meet Louie

You’ve heard his heartbreaking cries of abandonment and now have a glimpse into one of the many difficult issues we deal with here daily at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary. Now it’s time for you to learn a little more about this precious soul who needs our help so badly.

Meet Louie, found wandering the streets of New York City lost and alone, he was brought in to a Police station who in turn took him to the NYC ACC.

A mere 4 pounds and neglected beyond belief, this boy was deteriorating medically waiting for his family to come find him, but that never happened. Remember Me Rescue urgently pleaded with us to save him and when we heard his cries, we just could not say no.

Louie is now safe with Paws Give Me Purpose but his journey has just begun. His life matters and we will do everything in our power to provide him with the medical care he needs and deserves in order to live his golden years to the fullest.

We can see first hand just how much he really wants this second chance more than anything – but we cannot make it happen without your help.

Louie is estimated to be 12+ years of age; he is blind, emaciated to the point where you can count every rib and vertebrae in his spine. He has a heart murmur, severe periodontal disease, luxating patellas and a left perineal hernia. For the lack of better words, he is an emotional wreck, and we need to help him heal both physically and mentally so he can enjoy his golden years comfortably and loved.

Please help us fight to give Louie the opportunity to live the best life possible in his remaining years. We cannot do this without YOU!
