At 15 years of age Buttercup looks and functions like the average senior dog. Her blood work looked good, she has a fabulous appetite, and no heart murmur was detected. She does however have severe dental disease and was coughing. We started antibiotics immediately to help with both her diseased mouth and cough. 

Unfortunately, after 2 rounds of 2 different kinds of antibiotics there was no change in her cough, so a complete body radiograph was taken to try and find the root cause of her issue. 

Sadly, our worst fears were confirmed today when the radiograph showed that both her heart and liver are twice the size they should be. 

In order to help Buttercup feel her best, she needs to see our Cardiologist as soon as possible so we can start her on the proper medications – her appointment is scheduled for Thursday. 

Our Vet bills are growing and sadly, donations are not — we need your help! We are currently working hard to pay down our vet bills and replenish our medical fund as it continues to dwindle. 

The reality is as a Sanctuary for senior, and special needs dogs, our expenses greatly outweigh the donations we receive. We ask that you please open your hearts and dig deep.

When Tito first arrived at Paws Give Me Purpose in January, he was literally the untouchable dog. No one could get near him let alone attempt to touch him. He was for the lack of better terms a behavioral mess.

Decompression time was lengthy for this spicy Chihuahua, but in time he began to trust his handler — only his handler. He would not allow anyone else to even get close enough to try. 

We took care of his medical needs. Tito had to go through 2 surgeries due to his neglectful condition, and we helped him heal physically. But, there was and still is so much more mental and spiritual healing for this broken boy found wandering the streets to do. 

Today, 5 months since his arrival, Tito took his first cautious but big step toward socialization with other humans under the watchful eye of his handler. He went and sat down next to a staff member he would until today only growl and attempt to bite. 

This may sound like slow progress to some of you, but it’s not. People are often so eager for their dogs to make friends with their family and friends that they push and fright can easily turn into fight or flight. 

Dogs who suffer from neglect and abuse may find it hard to acclimate to certain people or situations, and need a lot more training and tender loving care. Other dogs just haven’t had proper socialization and insufficient contact with other people beyond those they already know and this can cause them to behave differently. These beautiful souls have to learn to trust their world and the world that surrounds them.

Tito was given the time and space he needed to decompress, observe, begin to learn to trust and do this on his own terms – and today he was ready to try and make a new human friend.

Hi all! It’s me Minnie. I know I can sometimes be a big, demanding barker, but I do also know how to be quiet – especially when I have something serious to share.

Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. gives the abused, neglected and the most unwanted souls like myself a life; a chance to be loved, cherished and to learn that not all humans are unkind.

As a Sanctuary for senior, special needs, hospice, and other difficult to adopt dogs, a major part of what they do is provide ongoing medical support and treatment for all us dogs in their care. 

They work closely with their Veterinary team to help us maintain a good quality of life for as long as we are on this earth – giving us the ability to live the life we may have never had before – in a loving home with everything we could ever need. 

This kind of medical care is expensive, even with the wonderful rescue discount they receive from the Vets, and we, the Sanctuary residents, truly appreciate any and all donations made to the medical fund!
