Welcome Betty Boop

Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. has rescued animals that should have never let us touch them; we have held animals that stunk so bad you had to hold your breath to even get near them. We have been covered in blood as we held a dog telling them to fight through the pain, and we have gained the trust of dogs that could have taken a hand off.

We have watched miracles happen, and we have also held many as they took their last breath. We have held dogs and felt a pain run through our bodies that was so intense we could not move; all we could feel were the tears falling from our eyes.

As our rescuing continues, we welcome Betty Boop to Sanctuary. Betty is a 17-year-old girl who has lost the only family she has ever known. She was brought into the shelter by Animal Control after being left behind in her home upon her owner’s sudden and tragic passing.

This very fragile senior is lost, confused, and cries as she does not understand what has happened to her. She is a walking skeleton with a protruding spine, she is blind, and was covered in fleas at her intake. Her blood work and urine analysis revealed that she has renal disease, regenerative anemia, and thyroid issues. X-Rays have revealed an old spinal injury that never healed properly, causing her spine to protrude, hunching her over when she walks.

We made sure Betty received the immediate emergency care she needed and we have begun giving her the proper medications, supplements and diet in order to help her heal. She will continue to receive the expert care she needs and deserves!

Betty is not in any physical pain, but it is evident she has been seriously neglected for a long time, and her spirit has been broken. It goes without saying that we will do whatever is necessary to help Betty feel her best to be the happiest and most comfortable she can be.

Our promise to Betty is to provide her with a safe and loving environment for the rest of her life and we are committed to keeping this promise.

We are not going to mince words here, but our bills at both our ER Vet Hospital and our regular Veterinarians office are astronomical! This is all due to the nature of the kind of work we do. We have limited time to pay all of these bills off — we need your help, and we need it now!

While we hate to continue to ask for money, we know that in order to sustain operations and help these dogs, it is what we must do.

We ask that you please open your hearts and send your most generous gift to help us with their urgent medical care. No amount is too small.

Snickers Update

Snickers went for his ultra sound this past Thursday, and we have some good news and some not so good news.

The good news is there is no cancer! We are incredibly relieved to hear that. The Veterinary team was able to locate his undescended testicles and those look cancer free as well.

Now, for the not so good news. Snickers unfortunately is in early stage kidney failure. Additionally, his testicles are located in very difficult locations for any kind of safe neutering for a dog his age. One testicle is near his bladder and the second is in his rear end.

We thoroughly discussed the surgical procedure, healing time and possible issues with our Veterinary team, and all concur that it is too risky and not something we should put Snickers through at this point in his life. This type of surgery would be much more difficult and invasive for any dog most especially a senior that has other medical issues.

With all this in mind and wanting only what is best for Snickers, our board has made the decision that it is in Snickers best interest to become a permanent Sanctuary resident.

While we ourselves do not personally handle adoptions, in part, this decision was made because we cannot allow the adoption of any unaltered dogs per the State of New Jersey Laws.

We apologize to all those of you who were willing to open your hearts and home to this special boy, and we promise you all he will be loved and spoiled just as all our other Sanctuary residents are on a daily basis.

Our promise to Snickers is to continue to give him his best life daily with unconditional love for the rest of his life!

If anyone ever doubts us, know that this is what we do at Paws Give Me Purpose.

Prayers For Snickers

Today we are asking for all our staff, volunteers, followers, and supporters to help us pray for Snickers as he heads for an ultrasound later this morning.

For those not familiar with his backstory, Snickers was abandoned twice at the same shelter by those he had considered his forever family. While we do not know the exact reasons stated for his surrender, it doesn’t make his story any less heartbreaking. The second surrender almost cost Snickers his life!

One of our devoted volunteers happened to be at the shelter picking up another pup in need when they noticed this sweet boy and were told he had just 2 hours left to live. She quickly sent us a text, and our hearts immediately said yes.

Snickers had a host of medical issues and he has received the urgent emergency care he needed and will continue to receive the medical care and rehabilitation he deserves. Unfortunately, the results of his blood work and urine analysis did not look very good for a dog his age. His kidney and liver values are both very high, and in combination with the fact that he is a bilateral cryptorchid, meaning his testicles did not descend, sadly causing the concern that he may have cancer.

Although the original plan was to neuter Snickers once his testicles were located by ultrasound, we are now having to do a more thorough ultrasound to rule out cancer.

Through love, compassion and caring, Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. creates a safe Sanctuary for dogs like Snickers where they can take all the time they need to heal mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

If for whatever reason we are unable to go ahead and neuter Snickers, no matter the outcome, we will continue to give him his best life daily with unconditional love for the rest of his life!
