Welcome Cocoa

Things have been extremely busy here at Paws Give Me Purpose over the last couple of weeks, but we did not want another day to pass by without introducing you all to our newest Sanctuary resident Cocoa (aka Baby Shark).

At a mere 3.6 pounds, Cocoa was surrendered by her owner to Baltimore Animal Control for a variety of health and behavioral issues including lunging, growling and biting.

This 6-7 year old Baby Shark is truly a spicy little hot chocolate. She is extremely fearful of humans, but seeing men in her vicinity literally sends her into a tirade of negative behaviors. Barking, growling, biting, etc. Although she does seem to get along with other tiny dogs, she continues to guard her space and food from them.

People seem to think that small dog breeds can’t possibly cause any harm, so they believe they don’t require training and discipline; however, people need to realize even a tiny Chihuahua or Yorkie can bite. Obedience training and discipline are always a must, for both you and your dog’s benefit and that obviously has not happened at all in Cocoa’s 7 years of life. Her fear is also palpable; and she absolutely does not trust human beings.

Please help us welcome Cocoa to Sanctuary. Help us help her heal, mentally, physically, spiritually, and learn to love and trust the human race.

Asking for money isn’t easy for anyone to do, but we need your help more than ever! Taking care of all of our Sanctuary residents is our top priority, and we know that in order to sustain operations, it’s what we must do.

We ask that you please consider making a donation to help us with Cocoa’s care.

Buttercup Update

As you can see, Buttercup is not very happy with us today for taking her to see the Cardiologist; however, we are glad we did because now we have some answers.

With the proper diagnosis, we are now able to help Buttercup live out her senior years to the fullest and in comfort here at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary.

The Cardiologist explained that thankfully her lungs are clear, but she suffers from Mitral Valve Disease as well as Lower Airway Disease. She has been prescribed medications to help keep her as healthy and comfortable as possible for as long as she is with us.

Her medications are being compounded at this very moment by our pharmacy and she will begin taking them today.

We thank you all for your outpouring of support for Buttercup and we ask that you continue to send prayers and share for donations so we can give her the best life daily with unconditional love for the rest of her life like she deserves!

Buttercup is still hoping to find her very own lifetime sponsor, could it be you? If you are interested in signing up to become Buttercup’s sponsor please reach out to us directly.

Buttercup Needs You

At 15 years of age Buttercup looks and functions like the average senior dog. Her blood work looked good, she has a fabulous appetite, and no heart murmur was detected. She does however have severe dental disease and was coughing. We started antibiotics immediately to help with both her diseased mouth and cough.

Unfortunately, after 2 rounds of 2 different kinds of antibiotics there was no change in her cough, so a complete body radiograph was taken to try and find the root cause of her issue.

Sadly, our worst fears were confirmed today when the radiograph showed that both her heart and liver are twice the size they should be.

In order to help Buttercup feel her best, she needs to see our Cardiologist as soon as possible so we can start her on the proper medications – her appointment is scheduled for Thursday.

Our Vet bills are growing and sadly, donations are not — we need your help! We are currently working hard to pay down our vet bills and replenish our medical fund as it continues to dwindle.

The reality is as a Sanctuary for senior, and special needs dogs, our expenses greatly outweigh the donations we receive. We ask that you please open your hearts and dig deep.

100% of all donations go directly toward the care of the Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary residents.
