Heaven’s Gain Is Our Loss

Although we knew when he arrived that his time with us would be very short, King’s life was very important to us. The kind of work we do never gets easier.

King passed peacefully, on his own terms during his afternoon nap yesterday – and our hearts are broken once again. He joined us when we realized we could not stand by and allow him to die alone in a shelter without the kindness, compassion, love and dignity he deserved.

We did everything we possibly could to help him and really thought he would have had more time with us, but his little body could not keep up with his will to live.

King was one of the happiest, sweetest, most gentle boys ever and we will never be able to understand how anyone could have mistreated him and then tossed him away.

You will always live on in our hearts King– you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known you! You will forever be a part of us and live on in our hearts – Heaven’s gain is our loss…

We would like to acknowledge King’s generous lifetime sponsor, Kelley, for assisting us with his care and for helping give us the ability to provide him with everything he needed to live out his remaining days here in Sanctuary with much needed medical care, comfort, and love. On behalf of King, we thank you from the bottom of his little heart and ours. It is supporters like you that are the driving force behind what we do.

Thank you to all of our followers and supporters for caring and for being a support to us during this difficult time.

Meet Jewel

Meet our newest, tiny Sanctuary resident, Jewel. Sadly, Jewel has been diagnosed with cancer. Once we saw the urgent shelter plea, we could not say no. Could you? Just look at the soul-crushing sadness in her eyes.

Owner surrenders can be some of the most heartbroken dogs we have ever seen. The list of the excuses for surrendering is just too long to list. And while we try hard not to focus on bashing anyone, sometimes you just can’t believe what you are hearing and seeing. Written on the actual surrender forms, “our Veterinarian diagnosed our dog with cancer and we just don’t want to deal with it”.

Jewel is 10 years old and weighs a mere 5 pounds. She is very sweet but also very frightened – she has just lost the only home she has ever known in her life and we completely understand her loss and pain.

While she is not in any physical pain, she does have many tumors and we are waiting for her full blood panel results before considering any type of surgery – we want to give her the best chance to live out her senior years to the fullest.

Asking for money isn’t easy for anyone to do, but we need your help now more than ever! Please make a life-saving donation and help us help Jewel.

Ellie Update

Ellie is resting comfortably but has not been interested in much else – including food. It will take time for her to heal from all that she has been through – and our team is here for her every step of the way.

Please keep Ellie in your prayers.

We are not a big rescue, but we try our hardest to do big things for the dogs like Ellie that no one else stepped up to help during their time of need.

We give the abused, neglected and the most unwanted souls a life — a chance to be loved, cherished and to learn that not all humans are unkind – to us this is big!

Donations are still needed for Ellie’s care, so please help. #GivingTuesday will be here before you know it — just 2 weeks away, the day when millions of people around the world unite to support the causes they care most about and this year it takes place on November 30th.

Please mark your calendars and consider donating to Paws Give Me Purpose for our medical fund that will help Ellie and other dogs like her. Only with your help can we say yes to more senior/special needs dogs like Ellie.
