Summer Fun

What’s a boy to do when it’s way too hot for him to play outside? After all, with a delicious name like Snickers he will surely melt!

Snickers is enjoying an indoor swim of sorts in our indoor play area here at Paws Give Me Purpose. As much as he enjoys his yard time, it is best for the health of our special needs seniors to spend more time indoors where it’s cooler.

As temperatures soar into the mid 90’s here in Southern New Jersey, it’s imperative we keep all our Sanctuary residents cool and safe.

He is feeling his best and being a very good boy taking his medications and supplements daily. We are keeping a close watch on his kidneys and making sure he stays hydrated. Ensuring optimal hydration is the single most important aspect in treating insufficient kidney function.

Summer is a terrific time to be a dog owner. It lets you run, swim, and play with your dog in nicer weather than any other time of the year. However, summer also brings unique risks to your dog’s health that you should keep in mind throughout the season.

Short trips to the potty are best, long walks are not advised. (even the sidewalks can become dangerous by getting too hot for their paws) NEVER leave your dog in the car, NEVER leave your dog outside all day! A dog can die of heat stroke, their bodies heat up much more quickly than ours.

Even if your dog is out briefly they will get hot and a frosty treat may be just what they need to cool down. Snickers is thinking about digging into some yummy frozen treats today – there are many recipes available for frozen goodies on our website, be sure to check them out.

Stay safe out there, and thank you for giving us the ability to do what we do.

Welcome Buttercup

Today, Paws Give Me Purpose welcomed beautiful Buttercup into Sanctuary.

Buttercup is a 15 and 1/2 year-old Yorkie who was surrendered to the shelter with some pretty serious medical issues.

Yorkie 911 Rescue pulled Buttercup to safety, they felt it would be best for her to spend her remaining golden years in Sanctuary – and how could anyone say no, just look at her!

While she is technically considered a hospice case to most, to us she is another beautiful senior soul that has some special needs.

She will be seen by our Veterinary team as soon as possible. We will make sure she receives the expert medical care she needs and deserves.

Stay tuned for Buttercup’s complete bio coming soon.

Today Is A Good Day

One of the most amazing things dogs show us is that, no matter how much suffering or abuse they’ve gone through, is their resilience and ability to move forward in their lives with just a little bit of love and care.

For Lazarus, Paws Give Me Purpose is home. He is not bitter or angry about what’s happened in his past, he never looks back, he enjoys every moment. To him, today is a good day, and that’s all that matters.

Dogs are truly one of the most forgiving species out there, and that’s just part of what makes them so very special. We humans could most definitely learn a thing or two from them.
