Remembering Mocha

Today we remember Mocha.

One year ago today, this beautiful soul came to the Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary. Not knowing when she was born, this was also the day we designated as her Birthday – the start of her new life.

For those of you not familiar with her story, Mocha came from a horrible past of abuse and neglect; she was a fighter and we fought along right beside her. We did everything we possibly could to help her.

Mocha was a very fragile 6-year-old Chihuahua mix who was seized by Animal Control during a drug raid and removed from the home. She was brought to the BARCS Animal Shelter in Maryland. She had been starved, was extremely underweight; she was basically a walking skeleton, covered in fleas, sores all over her body, alopecia, dermatitis, and extremely overgrown nails.

Worst of all was the damage caused by the toxic air she had been breathing her entire life. Mocha had difficulty breathing and was diagnosed with severe lower airway disease and her lungs were incredibly damaged. We knew going into this rescue that her condition was extremely grave and her life was at risk, but we never gave up on Mocha.

Paws Give Me Purpose did everything possible to help her and give her the best possible life we could. She was very loved, received lots of TLC and the expert medical care she needed and deserved. Mocha was a fighter and we had really hoped and prayed she would make a full recovery and would enjoy the life she really deserved, but sadly it was not meant to be.

On June 6, 2019, our hearts were shattered after discovering that Mocha had crossed to Rainbow Bridge peacefully in her sleep.

In the few months that she was here in our Sanctuary, she knew love and learned that not all humans are unkind.

Happy Birthday in Heaven beautiful girl! You will always have a special place in our hearts.

In Mocha’s memory, Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. would like to be able to rescue other precious souls just like her and give them a chance at life, but we cannot do this without you.

We ask that you please consider making a donation to our Sanctuary today in beautiful Mocha’s name, so other dogs just like her have a special place to live out their days feeling safe and loved.

A Simple Hello

Hi, it’s me Houston. I have some news to share with all of you…

Although I am not entirely sure what it means, everyone here at Paws Give Me Purpose seems very excited. I have been told that I am going to have something called a meet and greet.

I have also been told if all goes well with this meet and greet thing, I will have a forever home…is that true? Someone filled out something called an application and wants to meet me.

I’m a little nervous about this, you see, I’m a bit people selective; but the staff and volunteers here say they will help me with that. I am going to try really hard to be on my best behavior, and I hope the people coming to meet me give me all the time I need to get to know them.

I’m not sure what all this means, and it sounds a little scary. I would really love to have my very own mommy and or daddy who will love me forever; I promise to love them forever right back.

I’m not sure what I am supposed to do to get ready. What do you think, should I get dressed up? Which look do you think I should go with?

Send some good luck wishes my way, I could really use all the positive vibes possible!

Just Give Me A Chance

IF YOU JUST GIVE ME A CHANCE, IT WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS YOU EVER MADE!

Meet Houston! Houston was rescued from Houston, Texas during Hurricane Harvey by Yorkie911 Rescue Inc almost 2 years ago. Being such an adorable, young pup there was no doubt he would be adopted quickly, and he was. Unfortunately over the last couple years while in his home, Houston began exhibiting behavior issues and the family decided to return him to the rescue.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the complaints, the rescue was not able to accommodate Houston with an appropriate foster environment to assess the situation and turned to us for help. His story touched our hearts so deeply, that we could not say no to helping this frightened little boy.

Houston is about 2 years old, believed to be a Chihuahua Lab Mix, and weighs about 25 pounds. He is completely housebroken, crate trained and knows his basic commands plus. He loves walks, belly rubs, enjoys a good massage, and climbing into a lap to cuddle up to his people.

Houston is what we consider a sensitive dog here at Paws Give Me Purpose, and does not require Sanctuary. He is a highly adoptable dog, and his behaviors are very manageable. We are recommending a quiet adult only home with a couple something like a 55 and older couple or those with children who are in college and have the time to devote to him. Savvy dog experienced individuals who will be patient and give him the time he needs to decompress, learn to trust, and adjust to his new environment without overwhelming him. Houston warms up quickly and really just wants to be a lap dog and receive all your love and attention possible.

As for other dogs, we recommend either he be the only dog in a home, or a home with one other laid back dog around Houston’s size at most – he gets too overwhelmed otherwise.

We know that Houston’s future is bright, and in the right home environment he will excel. We are hoping and praying that he doesn’t have to wait much longer before someone will open their heart and home to a wonderful dog like him. We guarantee you will fall in love when you meet him!

Since we are a Sanctuary, and normally do not handle adoptions, applications for Houston will be processed by Yorkie911 Rescue, Inc. To fill out an application for Houston, please head over to: https://www.yorkie911rescue.com/forms/form?formid=1626

If you are not in the position to adopt please share Houston so we can find him a forever home!
