We kept our promise to Finn; we loved him, spoiled him, and kept him comfortable until it was time for the Angels to come and take him home. He passed peacefully in his sleep knowing only kindness, compassion, love, and dignity.
Finn arrived at our Sanctuary New Years Eve 2024, his condition left us speechless – a mass that had been left to grow to an enormous size both internally and externally, ruptured and bleeding. His fragile body told us a story of long-term neglect; we have no way of knowing how long he struggled or how long he endured pain with no relief.
The diagnosis, anal adenocarcinoma, and every surgeon we consulted with recommended comfort care for as long as there was quality of life – and we loved him beyond measure.
He didn’t need to be perfect, he just needed someone to see his worth and provide him with the life and dignity he deserved. He knew he was loved and he was not just surviving he was thriving under our care.
Finn outlived a very grim prognosis, greeted each morning with tail wags and gentle snuggles. He enjoyed warm medicated bubble baths, he loved to eat, play and cuddle with both his 2-legged and 4-legged friends. He truly enjoyed outdoor exploration, laying in the sun and his favorite – enjoying the splash pad on a warm day. Although he would tire easily, after a brief rest he would be ready to just soak in so much more – he didn’t want to miss a thing.Â
He was our unexpected Angel, giving us more love than we ever thought possible; all he needed was this second chance to be happy and comfortable; he made every minute count.
Every dog that comes through our Sanctuary doors is perfect in their own way, they all bring something special with them. They too have a purpose for being here just as we do, and Finn certainly lived his remaining days to the fullest with purpose.
Finn helped some of our own PGMP Team members heal their own broken hearts a bit with his gentle loving nature, and taught us all not to live each day as if it were your last, but rather to live each day as if it were your first. A philosophy that encourages approaching life with a sense of wonder and newness, focusing on the present, and finding joy in small moments – and boy did he!
Finn, you will always live on in our hearts and at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary forever. We feel truly blessed that your beautiful spirit has touched our lives, our hearts and we were blessed to have known you and been able to love you with our whole hearts!
Thank you to each and everyone of you for caring, for being a support to us and for helping us give Finn everything he needed to enjoy his remaining months to the fullest. We hope you see the legacy little Finn has left behind and understand why the work we do here is so rewarding and so important.
