Remembering Alfredo

As much as we hate sharing heartbreaking news, we wanted to inform everyone with the deepest sadness that precious Alfredo gained his Angel wings.

He left this earth on his own terms, peacefully in his sleep knowing kindness, compassion, love, dignity and with a smile on his face.

Alfredo entered our Sanctuary back in November of 2024. Evidence showed he suffered from extreme neglect. He was then tied up in a mesh laundry bag and thrown out of a car onto a busy highway. This precious senior soul was lucky someone noticed and brought him to the safety of the Voorhees Animal Orphanage.

There was something very special about Alfredo – he was a fighter, and a lover. No matter all the pain and suffering he had gone through, he had a heart of gold. He was also a  “dirty little old man” who just couldn’t resist the ladies, the 2-legged and most especially the 4-legged. He would closely trot around them as if flirting all the while, wagging his tail.

He settled into our Sanctuary like he had been waiting for us his entire life. He knew where he was needed and who needed him the most and he would literally focus his attention on them by showing his affection through the best cuddles and hugs ever. Now, his extra special soul is gracing the heavens and showing his love to all those who may need something a bit extra at the Bridge.

When Alfredo wasn’t busy loving the ladies, he focused on his love of food and time in the outdoor play yard. His happiness was contagious, and you just couldn’t help but smile watching him trot around the yard like a little pony or guzzle down food like a vacuum cleaner.

He was this miracle of a dog that just kept going and going, he didn’t want to miss a moment. Alfredo fought very hard to stay here and enjoy his second chance, but just one day shy of a year his body could not keep up with his will to live. He packed a lifetime of love into 364 days and left us with broken hearts in a very specific way.

In the short time he was here with us, he loved fiercely, he made his relationships and friendships seem almost sacred, and he didn’t waste a single moment. His gratitude had a depth that was so humbling. Every tail wag was a thank you, every quiet sigh while in your arms was his trust and his purpose invaded all of our hearts.

PGMP Sanctuary was the last chapter of Alfredo’s story – and what an honor it has been. We can only hope that his time here with us was able to erase the evil he had endured during his lifetime and that only the good memories he made here is what he took with him.

It is our hope that Alfredo knows how very much he was loved and adored. You will always live on in our hearts Alfredo – you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known and been able to love you with our whole hearts!

We would like to acknowledge Alfredo’s generous sponsor, Donna, for assisting us with his care and helping give us the ability to provide him with everything he needed and then some. Thank you also for taking the time to visit, and for spending quality time loving him. On behalf of Alfredo, we thank you from the bottom of his little heart and ours. It is supporters like yourselves that are the driving force behind what we do.

Thank you to each and everyone of our followers and supporters for caring, for being a support to us and for being a part of the best days of Alfredo’s life!

Welcome Pinto Bean

At 14 years of age and a mere 4 pounds, tiny Pinto Bean found himself behind shelter walls waiting and wondering why he was there and what happened to the only family he had given his heart to for the past 8 years.

The scenario was beyond heartbreaking. When his family member passed away, no one else wanted to be responsible for his care. That’s when we received the plea for help.

Pinto has limited vision, severe dental disease, as well as mild paraphimosis, a condition in which the penis is unable to fully retract into its sheath, and as if that was not enough, he has been diagnosed with B cell Lymphoma.

Although Pinto is considered a hospice case to most, to us he is another beautiful, special needs senior soul who did not deserve to die in a shelter.

Some people may view hospice as giving up, as resigning to a fate. Hospice is not about giving up, it’s about focusing on comfort and giving them the best quality of life.

We work hard to provide comfort, relieve any pain and help these precious souls in their remaining days live with dignity and respect. Pinto deserves this second chance to have good times and make only the best memories.

Yugi Update

Pictured here is Yugi. Tossed out onto the streets of Philadelphia with his brother Bandit because “they weren’t dying fast enough”.

We won’t lie, since taking Yugi under our wing things have been difficult for him but he is a fighter. As long as he is fighting we will fight alongside him because he deserves this second chance! His will to live is nothing short of amazing and he is finally healthy enough to undergo the first necessary comfort care surgery.

While we hate to ask for money, we need your support to provide Yugi and all our Sanctuary residents with the necessary specialized care.

Donations are at an all time low, and the reality is, our expenses greatly outweigh the donations we receive. We are working hard to make sure that the dogs here in Sanctuary have all their needs met and that has to be our priority!

Please consider making a lifesaving gift today. All donations help us fight to give dogs like Yugi the opportunity to live the best life possible. We cannot do this without YOU!
