Remembering Talulah Belle

It is with the deepest sadness that we inform all of you that beautiful Talulah Belle peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge early this morning in her sleep.

At around 3am Lulu came looking for her Sanctuary mom. That usually means one of 2 things, she had some water, or went to the potty and wanted to be tucked back into her bed. Little did we know that this would be the last time.

Talulah arrived at our Sanctuary back in May from The Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter, and in just the few short months she was here she captured everyone’s heart!

Lulu was not a very social girl and she mostly kept to herself. She did not interact with the other senior dogs, but she didn’t mind them being around either. When it came to people, she was choosy, and her Sanctuary mom became her most important person; she would always come looking for her Sanctuary mom when she was out of sight or she didn’t hear her voice; sometimes just peeking around the corner just to be sure she was there.

Although Lulu was very reserved and quiet, there was a special soul inside her and we could see it shining through. Every dog that comes through our doors, for no matter how long they are with us, brings something special to our Sanctuary and Lulu is no exception. Just watching her blossom a little more each moment of the day was very meaningful to us – and we will miss her terribly.

She enjoyed soaking in a lavender bubble bath and would always eagerly wait for her meals to be prepared; she enjoyed every morsel. And every day without fail, she waited for that fresh from the dryer bed and blanket to arrive before bed time.

Thank you to the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter and The Shelter Connection for entrusting us with Lulu’s care. Thank you for bringing her into our lives and for giving us the pleasure of loving her with our whole hearts.

You will forever live on in our hearts Talulah Belle – you were taken way too soon. We were blessed to have known and love you!

Thank you to each and every one of you for caring and for being a support to us during this time.

Their Love Is Forever

Little Bella, aka our Beanie Baby, is just stopping in to say hello to all our wonderful followers and supporters. She is here to tell you that getting old is most certainly not easy, but she is still beautiful, inside and out, and she most certainly has value!

For those not familiar, this little old lady arrived at our Sanctuary in December of 2020 suffering from a host of major medical and behavioral issues. You can refresh your memory of her arrival by heading over to:

After a great deal of rehabilitation, ongoing medical care, a healthy diet, senior supplements and the TLC she needed and deserved, Bella is feeling fabulous!

We have a very hard time understanding why anyone would have brought a dog like Bella into their lives only to release her out on the street. This tiny old lady is not disposable, she was someone’s family member; a living breathing animal with feelings just like you and me. Have we as human beings lost our ability to care?

Was it too much trouble to at least take her to a shelter? This poor girl was found wandering the streets, and when taken to the nearest shelter by animal control, no one bothered to even come looking for her. What happened to Bella is a clear message that she was no longer wanted.

Why? Did she get too old? After giving 13 years of love, loyalty and devotion to her humans, Bella still deserves to be loved and treated with dignity, and not to be tossed away like yesterday’s newspaper.

For Bella, Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary is home and she is safe, spoiled, and loved – as she should be! And although she suffers from some serious medical issues, she is a very happy girl.

All dogs are beautiful, but senior dogs have a way of touching our hearts in a way that changes everything.

If you are interested in signing up to be Bella’s sponsor please reach out to us directly.

Lulu Does Brunch

This is the face of a dog who truly enjoyed her breakfast this morning – and truth be told, Talulah enjoys every meal just like this!

Needless to say, she will be getting yet another bath today, but she enjoys that too. We just had to share this moment of joy with all of you before we wash the evidence away.

She gets so excited at mealtime that there are no real words to express it – Lulu “does brunch”; she takes her time and she never leaves a crumb behind.

If Lulu is happy, we are happy, and her happiness and the happiness of all our Sanctuary residents is our number one priority!

Lulu is living her best life daily with unconditional love for the rest of her life.

This is what we do here at Paws Give Me Purpose.
