Never Give Up

On this wonderful Wednesday, adorable Shaggy is stopping by to say hello and wish you all a fabulous day.

Although Shaggy is a hospice resident here at the Sanctuary, to us he is really another beautiful special needs senior soul who did not deserve to die in a shelter.

Just when we fear the worst, Shaggy shows us just how much he will continue to fight for the life he deserves. His will to live is simply amazing!

Shaggy’s advice to us all – never give up, even when things are really tough.

And it is clear to us that Shaggy is thriving because of all of you! Your support means everything to us and to dog’s like Shaggy.

Meet Max

The month of February was an extremely busy one for us here at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary- we had 7 new intakes! Please bear with us as we try to catch up on introducing them all to you.

Meet Max! He was surrendered to the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter in the most neglected condition (shelter intake photos in comments) so much so, he did not even look like the same dog! We have been told by a shelter volunteer that he smelled so badly that you could literally smell the stench through closed doors into the next room.

Max was very sick and as it turned out along with some other senior medical conditions, he suffered from a serious case of Pancreatitis. He received the urgent medical care he needed and deserved and was pulled by one of our rescue partner Remember Me Rescue NY.

The original plan was to get Max healthy and ready for adoption, but it soon became clear that he would be an extremely difficult dog to adopt out so it was decided that Max needed Sanctuary.

Max is not the lap Yorkie everyone wants him to be, while he most certainly is cute, he is not cuddly and at 12 years of age we do not expect that he will change.

Max prefers things on his own terms, is a guarder – of everything and can become quite nasty when he doesn’t get his way. He’s not a fan of sharing anything with anyone, human or dog, and requires some serious medical and behavioral management.

To date, we have been able to get him to tolerate other dogs being in his area, however he must eat his meals separately, and is not permitted on any human furniture since he can become extremely possessive and will react badly if anyone attempts to get close or remove him.

He really prefers to keep to himself and that’s ok; we can only imagine what he must have gone through in his life and it breaks our hearts.

He will be spending his remaining golden years here at PGMP, and we are turning to our wonderful supporters in order to ensure Max has everything he needs to live his life to the fullest – including his medications and a strict prescription diet.

With our medical bills climbing, and donations barely trickling in, we have had to ask ourselves how much longer we can help give the abused, neglected and the most unwanted souls a life; a chance to be loved – we truly cannot continue to do what we do without YOU!

Please consider making a donation, becoming a Sponsor or a Guardian Angel to our Sanctuary – these lives matter too.

Remembering Timmy

Our Tiny Tim gained his Angel wings and has left behind many broken hearts. Our promise to Timmy was to provide him with a safe and loving environment for the rest of his life, and we kept that promise.

He passed peacefully, on his own terms during his sleep cuddled up next to his beloved girlfriend Tiny Tina. Although we knew when he arrived that his time with us would be very short, Timmy’s life was very important to us. The kind of work we do never gets easier.

Timmy arrived at Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary back in November from the Babylon Animal Shelter. He was a very fragile boy with lots going on medically. He immediately bonded with our Tiny Tina; it was almost as if they had already known each other. They were so inseparable and the thought did cross our minds that perhaps they may have come from the same owner/breeder and they recognized each other.

We learn many things from our Sanctuary residents, and even if their pasts were a complete mystery to us since they came into the shelter as strays, it was nice to observe the dynamic of their love and friendship. In this case perhaps the lesson is you’re never too old to fall in love.

Timmy and Tina would eat all their meals together, spend time in the yard sunning themselves together, suck on gullet sticks together and most of all enjoyed cuddling up together. And although Timmy enjoyed human laps and affection too, he preferred to be by Tina’s side the most- wherever she went he followed.

You will always live on in our hearts Timmy, you were taken far too soon; we truly wish our love and care could have healed you and given you more time like you deserved. We were blessed to have known you!

We hope you know that even though your time with us was short, you were very loved. Your presence here at our Sanctuary was a gift and you will forever be a part of our hearts.

Thank you so much to all those who believed Timmy’s life mattered, for donating for caring and for being a support to us during this time.
