Lucy Update

What distinguishes Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. from other rescues is our philosophy that the Sanctuary residents come first. We act on behalf of the animals, and the staff and volunteers here all work under the notion that all animals in our Sanctuary, human and non-human, are of equal importance.

Requests for help come in daily from Shelters, Humane Society’s and other rescues when they feel a dog needs a special place to live out the remainder of their life. We are able to take in and provide for only a limited number of dogs at any given time (determined on a case by case basis).

When the shelter reached out to us about Lucy, we truly had no idea how bad her condition was, and neither did the shelter until they shaved down all her matted hair. Lucy has been with us now for several days and is receiving the expert medical care she needs and deserves.

We are doing everything possible to restore her health and save her eyes. Above all else, we at Paws Give Me Purpose put quality of life first, and we will not let Lucy suffer. Overall Lucy is feeling better, is very comfortable and looks much better than when she first arrived.

Lucy has an amazing appetite, takes her vitamins, supplements and medications with no issues. She enjoys time outside and being cuddled on the couch. Her skin is looking much better; she is less itchy, less red, and less inflamed. We are hoping some of her hair will grow back, but regardless she is beautiful to us!

Lucy is blind, her eyes have just become damaged and diseased from years of neglect. Since beginning treatment, the swelling of her eyes has gone down drastically. We are currently treating them with glaucoma medication, and hoping and praying we can save her eyes, but removal may still be necessary; only time will tell.

Lucy came to us because no one else stepped up to help her during her time of need. The shelter did not believe she needed to be euthanized and neither do we. For 16, Lucy has lots of pep in her step and deserves this second chance to be happy, loved and cherished.

Our promise to Lucy is to provide a safe and loving environment for the rest of her life.

If anyone ever doubts us, know that this is what we do at Paws Give Me Purpose.
