Welcome Snorkel

This weekend, Paws Give Me Purpose officially welcomed Snorkel into our Sanctuary. Huge shout out of gratitude to our volunteers for picking him up and transporting him to us in Southern New Jersey.

Snorkel is yet another senior dog who found himself wandering the streets, tossed out like a piece of trash. Did he just get too old to be loved? Or maybe because he was severely neglected and needed medical care, or was no longer useful for breeding? Whatever the case, this little 13 year old soul was clearly seen as not deserving of dignity.

Snorkel is a 6 pound French Bulldog/Chihuahua mix who is blind due to corneal scarring, suffers from regenerative anemia, has a heart murmur, lower airway disease and one enlarged lung. His spine is hunched from arthritis, and he is missing many teeth. As if that’s not enough, he has bilateral luxating patellas.

The most heartbreaking part to us is that this sweet boy has absolutely suffered for a very long time, yet even though he is blind, he looks up at us with hope in his eyes.

Above all else, we at Paws Give Me Purpose put quality of life first, and Snorkel most certainly has shown us his desire for life, for love and this second chance. Snorkel’s life matters! He isn’t garbage, and we promise he will never suffer again.

We need donations to help Snorkel and other dogs like him who suffer at the hands of careless, heartless people who treat them like objects that can be simply discarded when they are done with them – so please give.

Medical Update

The fabulous Dr. Joyce and Casey from HousePaws Mobile Veterinary Service came out to Paws Give Me Purpose Sanctuary today to provide much needed care to some of our senior residents.

A couple of routine Veterinary check ups, some vaccinations, and life saving medication updates took place here today.

Waldo had a re-check of his surgical sites, and is thrilled to become cone free! Charlie Freckles received his monthly allergy shot and had a nail trim – he was not thrilled. Teddy had an adjustment made to his heart medication, and Cocoa had her first complete medical exam, and received all her necessary vaccinations. She was a bit snappy, but under control of her handler she sort of cooperated.

Our biggest concern was Mr. Hobbes; he has not been feeling well and has had on and off upset stomach issues. We have been very concerned because he does have some kidney issues and although he was seen by the Vet for his annual exam in May, we thought it was best to have him re-examined and discuss his tummy troubles.

At 21 years of age, Hobbes has been doing really well. Unfortunately, he has recently begun to struggle with some health issues. Regardless of whether you are a human or a dog, getting old is not easy. Sadly today on top of everything else Mr. Hobbes is now dealing with a grade 2 heart murmur and some serious gastrointestinal issues.

Medications have been prescribed along with a probiotic, special diet and a weekly B12 shot that will be given here at the Sanctuary.

For all of you who know us well by now, you know how very much we hate asking for money. In fact, we have refrained from posting a large fundraiser for a long time – but it may be something we have to do. We are truly scraping the bottom of our bank account.

As a Sanctuary, our expenses greatly outweigh the donations we receive, and the nature of the work we do most definitely complicates things more and emergencies do arise.

We know how many are struggling, but we also know that we need to pay today’s Vet bill and rebuild our very depleted medical fund. Give us the ability to continue our work so all these precious unwanted souls can live their best lives unconditionally as well as the continued ability to help others in need.

We ask that you please dig deep down in your hearts and ask yourself, where would these dogs be without Paws Give Me Purpose, and those that are able their wallets – no amount is too small.
