Featured Dog Friday

Today we are re-featuring stunning Koda. Sadly, this beautiful girl still sits alone and heartbroken behind shelter walls. Every day, every hour, and every minute, she waits. With every car, every visitor, and every walk outdoors, she’s certain she’s going home. She wonders where her family is and she has a lot of anxiety about it.

All over the country; the story is the same: full shelters, full rescues, sluggish adoption numbers and more pets coming in every day – and the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter is no different. The shelter is drowning in dogs, but adoptions have come to a halt; help is desperately needed.

Koda was surrendered to the shelter last July by those she thought would love her forever – dumped at the shelter because they were moving.

We see so many dogs come into shelters, but the ones who really touch our hearts are the owner surrender cases like Koda. These are the animals that had once known what a home was, and lost it in seconds. Owner surrenders can be some of the most heartbroken dogs we see in the shelters. People don’t seem to understand or accept the reality for the surrendered pet, and what it does to them.

When you choose to add a furry member to your family, you must make the choice to be a responsible owner, to love and take care of your pet. Unfortunately, not all dog owners act responsibly and many abandon their dogs when they “become inconvenient”.

Koda is a very sweet and friendly 3 year old girl who is very anxious about being in the shelter. She is incredibly obedient; very smart, knows her commands, walks well on leash. She likes to stick close to her people and comes right to you when you call her. Koda’s previous home reports that she can be afraid of thunder and fireworks and she is not a fan of cats or other dogs. Koda will jump on you for some loving, and will take all the love that you will give her. She loves people, including children; the shelter is recommending households with children 8 years and older because Koda can get a bit mouthy and jumpy.

Sadly, Koda is deteriorating quickly in the kennel and losing weight. She is super stressed and anxious. She also displays some separation anxiety which is one of the most common problems that dogs face, due to the separation from the humans they are attached to – and Koda has lost the only home she has ever known.

She would do best in a home where someone is there most of the time since she does not like being away from those she loves. Someone with some dog experience would be best so they can continue to work through her anxiety. An active family and a fenced in yard would be a wonderful fit for her. She loves to play, is a total love bug and enjoys cuddling too.

For some dogs, the bond they share with their human becomes so strong that whenever you’re not with them, they become extremely distressed. Anxiety can be triggered by a life event such as a new job or the start of school, but there are other things that might have laid the groundwork for the anxiety that Koda is dealing with.

Today, all around the United States, things look dire for the pets in shelters and the people who care for them. Please, open your heart and consider giving Koda the chance she truly deserves! There must be a family out there who is the perfect match for this stunning girl; she is truly special and so deserving.

If you are not in the position to bring home this stunning beauty yourself, you can help by raising awareness of the current problem of full shelters by sharing her story and encouraging others to foster/adopt. Help us find Koda the forever home she really deserves – let’s not allow her to wait any longer.  Make arrangements to meet her, spend time with her, we guarantee you’ll fall in love!
