At 14 years of age, this precious soul was put out onto the streets to fend for herself, dragging around an enormous tumor.

Her body told us a story of long-term neglect and hardship. We have no way of knowing how long she had suffered dragging around a tumor that weighed half a pound, or how long she had endured pain with no relief. Regardless, this horrific chapter of her life is now over.
When our shelter partner reached out for help, we were at first speechless then heartbroken by what we heard and were seeing, but we knew in our hearts that Poppy deserved this second chance at life. A life where she could be comfortable and just be a dog.
Poppy has officially broken off her relationship with what we’ve been calling “Todd the Tumor”. This relationship is one that should have never happened, but has been sadly going on for many years. Poppy was never spayed and this was the result of years of lack of care. “Todd the Tumor” was removed on Tuesday, sent out for biopsy, and she has been spayed.
No dog should have to endure this type of suffering. No dog, especially a senior, should die alone in a shelter!
While Poppy may have a long road of recovery ahead of her, the worst days of her life are behind her. She will never go without care again! Every moment from this one forward will be filled with nothing but love, kindness and dignity.
